Creative Scientists Score Lab Safety Challenge Win

Lab Safety Challenge Winners

Frontline scientists and shining students from developing countries gave a behind-the-scenes look into lab safety in the first-ever telethon hosted by SANBio and Seeding Labs. The challenge stirred the creative brains of innovators as we received and reviewed entries from across the globe.

Two video submissions stood out, and we are proud to announce these teams as the winners of the Pandemic Lab Safety Challenge!

Grand Prize Winner – Nepal

Chief medical technologist and microbiologist Bal Krishna Awal and Biosafety officer Brinda Prajapati of the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu, Nepal won the Grand Prize award.

Precision, preparation, and education encompass the intricacy of the protocols that these scientists uphold as they collect and handle COVID-19 diagnostics. See their winning entry video here

Africa Prize winner – Botswana

Geology students from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology in Palaype, Botswana have shown how they have normalised the pandemic, by making lab safety “as natural as breathing”.

We congratulate this team which includes Kagiso K. Batlang, Lucky Radihephi, Kempho Marriete Mashila, and Kim Lone Reetsang. See how these creative innovators hack their way out of fogging glasses while wearing a mask in their winning entry video.

We would like to thank all those who participated in the challenge and our sponsors for providing prizes for these winners.
