Mr Francesco Pierri, a national of Brazil and Italy, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Sciences and a PhD in History and Theory of Economic Development.
He is currently the representative of FAO to South Africa. He joined FAO in 2013, as Policy Officer, Partnerships and South-South Cooperation Division (DPS), FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy. Mr Pierri has led the Advocacy Unit and been responsible for the 2014 UN International Year of Family Farming and for the Umbrella Programme Supporting Responsible Investments in Agriculture and Food Systems.
He has previously worked for organisations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and held various government posts related to rural development in Brazil.
