Course Presenters:
Mr. Phumuza Langa is currently employed as the R&D Outcomes Manager, at the CSIR. In this role he is responsible for technology transfer and Intellectual property (IP) matters within the Materials Science and Manufacturing unit. Prior to this role, he was the Commercialisation Co-ordination Manager at the University of Pretoria. Mr. Langa kicked off his career at Inqaba biotech as a laboratory technician focusing on DNA sequencing and analysis. He subsequently worked for the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) as commercialisation officer. He also worked for NIPMO as a Deputy Director for offices of technology transfer liaison. Mr. Langa holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) in Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA), a BTech degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Diploma in Biotechnology both from TUT. He is currently studying towards a Masters in Organisational Leadership with TUT business school working on a research title: Success factors for creating spin-out companies by publicly financed research and development (R&D) institutions.

Dr Paul Johl is an investment professional with experience in equity investments in start-up technology companies that required commercialisation skills; venture capital and private equity funds and the analysis of listed companies on the JSE Securities Exchange. He obtained his M Com and D Com degrees in Investment Management whilst lecturing at the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) for seven years in Financial and Investment Management. He also has experienced in corporate activities such as listing of companies and raising of funds with institutional investors. Most recently he worked at the Industrial Development Corporation for 16 years in the Venture Capital business unit (now called New Industries) where he had been involved in transactions across multiple sectors. He was responsible for providing strategic guidance to the executive teams and helping them to position the companies for growth.

Course dates: 1-22 February 2018

Course Topics: The course will focus on (i) defining a value proposition, (ii) market research, (iii) financial viability modelling, and (iv) valuation and building an investment case
Course material: Material will be sent electronically to course participants on 31 January 2018. All material may be viewed offline. Participants are expected to review all material prior to the live webinar with the course presenters. Please note that you will only receive your material on submission of proof of payment of course fees or a copy of a purchase order.

Live webinar: The webinar will be held on Thursday, 22 February 2018, 14h00 - 16h00 (South African time). You will need to access the webinar via your internet browser. Details on how to access the webinar will be sent to participants 48 hours prior to the webinar.

Course Fees: The cost is R700 per person.
Discounted fees will be offered to those who participate in more than one course!

Attendance of one course: R700 per person
Attendance of two courses: R1200 per person
Attendance of three courses: R1700 per person

The Business of Biosciences: will focus on aspects of entrepreneurship: (i) business planning and lean start-ups, (ii) marketing, (iii) business administration, (iv) finance, (v) governance (4-25 April 2018 )
